I thought it might be useful to make this thread instead of making one for the individual acts. I don't know a lot about the Elephant 6 bands, I'm still learning but it would be nice to have somewhere to share them and appreciate them a bit.

Basically the Elephant 6 Recording Company was started by some childhood friends who grew up making music together and went on to form and support some of the most interesting bands of the 90s - The Olivia Tremor Control, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Apples In Stereo and (earlier in their career) of Montreal.

Neutral Milk Hotel are probably the most well-known band to come out of this due to their critically acclamed album In The Aeroplane Over The See and you've probably seen Jeff Mangum (lead singer)'s name around as he's been playing some shows recently.

The Olivia Tremor Control are another really great band and they are more 'psychadelic' sounding. Shamefully I've only listened to one of their albums but it's really been so amazing that I haven't really felt like I was ready to move on to another yet. Black Foliage: Animation Music Volume One is really amazing, it blends cheery 60s like pop and twinkling sound collages.
