Hey guys! Sorry Ive been so busy and haven’t had that much time to post. I just wanted to pop by and tell you all how amazing Future Islands was at The Independent in SF. It was a sold out show and you could really tell that a lot of big fans of the band were there, which was awesome. My friend and I fortunately got there early and were able to snag a seat on the side which was a bit elevated and a perfect view, especially for one who is a midget like me!

The first band was Young Digerati. They’re very pop-y and I will say that they had potential, but both my friend and I found ourselves being bored with their songs. We just felt like there was no progression in the songs, and a lot of them sounded really similar.
The second band was XBXRX….to be honest, I had no clue as to what we were in for. When you go to a Future Islands show, you would expect the bands opening to at least be in the same genre, or even a bit close. When they were setting up, the lead guy was doing a warm up routine on and next to the stage with stretches and everything so we were a bit scared as to what was about to happen…for good reason. Im really not trying to talk badly about any band, but Im pretty certain all the members were on some sort of heavy drugs. First of all, they all came on stage matching in some tie-dyed (really) thin pants with a…well, it can really only be described as a poncho diaper. Yeah, Im not sure either. There was no structure to any of the songs. Just a lot of jamming out, screaming, jumping off of stuff, and throwing water and other items on stage at each other. To be honest, all I could do was laugh.
Finally Future Islands came on and all of a sudden, the place was PACKED. I’ve been trying to find the set list because I can’t remember the entire list, but I can say it was a really great set. I swear, every song I was like “I love this song!” “I love this one TOO!” and they played at least three new ones..a couple which have been written only weeks ago. One didn’t even have a title yet. The ones for certain I know they played were balance, give us the wind, before the bridge, walking through that door, inch of dust, long flight, tin man, and (I think) where I found you, plus the new ones. It was such a great show and set. I didn’t want it to end and I seriously danced my ass off…which was really difficult to take photos because I just wanted to keep dancing! A lot of people were singing a long and Sam mentioned how they were performing in smaller venues the past few nights beforehand and how it was really nice performing for a lot of people. He was talking a lot too and said “That must mean Im in a good mood!” Aaaw! Also, the guys from XBXRX jumped on stage during one of the songs and were all dancing with them. Then the main guy from XBXRX totally stage dived into the crowd and it was pretty awesome actually.
This was definitely one of the best shows Ive ever been to, period. I have to say that the first time I saw them at Launch did not do them justice. Although it was still great to see them in my hometown, I think the whole vibe of this show with a bunch of other fans, sold out crowd, and them just feeding off the energy just made it such a beautiful experience.
By the way, I doubt it but did anyone here see them with Gardens & Villa in Seattle? Aaahh! When I saw G&V the night after Future Islands, I got to chat with them again and they were super excited to open for them and gushed about how amazing they are and how they just had seen them in Santa Barbara the week before. Super sweet guys. Anyway…here are some photos and my vids from the night. The second one is really short because I thought I was recording and realized AT THE END I wasn’t so I tried to get as much of it as I could because it’s a new one. I also thought I filmed Inch of Dust (which is my favorite song of theirs), but definitely did not

I just love the movement in this one:

Staring into my soul:

The crazy that is XBXRX

Yeah, um, I don’t even know…

Ill be back to post the vids…
