Helicopter is lovely! :)

Another random Deerhunter comment: I saw Atlas Sound last December. Bradford Cox is an excellent balladeer.

Thanks for posting those songs, Paige! They are both really nice! *goes to order the album* I never would have bought it otherwise (at least until after I saw them live in a month and found out how nice the new songs are...).

I'm not actually an avid follower of the band or anything but as it's a recent release and it got substantial hype/it's relevent I thought it would be good to see how everyone else likes it  :)

This is a first listen to Deerhunter for me really, I heard a bit of thier last album but not in-depth. I'll admit I wasn't blown away but I didn't really know what to expect. I really liked the Helicopter single so maybe stuff a bit more like that. I've listened to the record in full now about seven times though and I think I'm starting to pick up on stuff and enjoy/like it more.

Helicopter, Basement Scene and He Would Have Laughed stand out to me  :)

Also Deerhunter will be playing a free show on 9/25 in Chicago. So if you're in that area, definitely checks it out.

I'm REALLY enjoyed Halcyon Digest. They're playing Nov. 1st in LA, hope I can make it! It'd be wonderful to see them live. My favorite tracks are "He Would Have Laughed" "Revival" and "Coronado"

There seemed to be a lot of animosity between Cox and the band last night. Cox seemed to be a dick to a sweet-looking roadie guy, too.
He seemed pretty fucked-up. He said as much on stage last night, too.

I was putting some effort into visualizing his being able to get a handle on his brain chemicals. *shrugs*

Alright so I purchased Halycon Digest a week after it came out last year. For months I just couldn't get into it and didn't realize what everyone was making such a big fuss about. A week ago when I a had a million things going on I played it and it sounded completely different. It's like a subtle tsunami, it hits you but in the most peculiar of ways. Theres parts in certain songs that a just magic. I think all really good albums take time to get into. But Deerhunter definitely has a new fan! :)

Lately I have been listening to more of their stuff and I think I have the whole discography now apart from an EP or two.
I already throughly love Halcyon Digest (try saying that out loud, it's really such a beautiful name) and Microcastle so now I need to give the older stuff a more in-depth listen.

They are a truly brilliant band though and Bradford Cox is such an inspirational person, if you have the time read a bit about him and his childhood, it's amazing what he went through.

One thing that benefits from repeated listens and a look at live performances is the instrumentation here. I'm completely blown away by the use of guitar, made even more admirable by the fact that it's not especially in-your-face or showy.

If you do anything today please at least watch the first two minutes of this video, the intro here is absolutely magical. There might be some other instrument than guitar in there but for the most part it's just those three guys playing together making something other-worldly.

I'm continually blown away by how stupid my posts are, even the ones from a month ago, jesus.

Anyway I got to see the babes at Latitude, they played well but it reminded me of something lala said about MGMT at Lolla. Seeing your (one of) favourite band(s) at a festival isn't always a great experience, it's usually best left to actual gigs. There were a lot of people there who just want to get drunk and a couple of girls right in front of me who obviously couldn't handle their drugs who were extremely distracting. Their set was very short and 'He Would Have Laughed' got cut before the end which was really, really disappointing. Caribou were on next and a lot more people came and danced to them but I don't think their performance was at all worth cutting such a beautiful song and pissing Bradford off (especially when they had a long flight to P4K the next day).

I was going to post and links to various videos but I'm pretty tired so I'll just say that Atlas Sound rocks, I love Bradford. I feel really embarassed that the first time I saw him was here on this forum when someone posted a picture and nebulosa (p.sure but maybe it was someone else) had to explain about his condition.

http://4ad.com/parallax/

A new Atlas Sound (Bradford's solo project) album called 'Parallax' will be out on November 8th. You can download one of the tracks from it, 'Terra Incoognita' which he's been playing live lately, on the site. If you also go to the right and click on one of the windows of the buildings you can download another track 'Oh Ricky'.

tracklist:
Quote
01 The Shakes
02 Amplifiers
03 Te Amo
04 Parallax
05 Modern Aquatic Nightsongs
06 Mona Lisa
07 Praying Man
08 Doldrums
09 My Angel Is Broken
10 Terra Incognita
11 Flagstaff
12 Nightworks

^ apparently that's actually possible so I'm just confused now!

I just wanted to post that I'm listening to/found out about the On Platts Eyott Island session for the first time and it's incredibly great. It was also recorded just a few miles away from my school which is amazing because I thought the area around my school was just boring semi-suburbia!

Anyway if you have the chance you really should listen to it. (Notoc? Anyone???)

So, someone was talking about Atlas Sound to me and how I was stupid for not seeing him at The Creators Project. I do indeed feel stupid. Going to download the album, now.
Also, what other Deerhunter albums do you suggest? I've been playing the hell out of "Halcyon Digest" for a year now. I love it. I don't know why I have not looked into their other work :S

I'm sure you've probably listened to more of thier stuff now but here's how I feel about their albums anyway. I would rate some higher than others but I don't mean to devalue to other albums at all. Their 'worst' work is still a lot better and more enjoyable than most other music for me. I was just going to do a this album > that album thing but now I've realised it's a bit more complicated. Weird Era Cont. feels so different in design it feels wrong to say that it's better than Halcyon Digest but sometimes I enjoy it more....

Idk here are just my favourite songs from their other work:
Cryptograms- Intro/Cryptograms, Octet, Spring Hall Convert, Hazel St.
Weird Era Cont.- Backspace Century, Vox Humana, VHS Dream, Weird Era, Calvary Scars II/Aux. Out
Microcastle- Agoraphobia, Saved By Old Times, Neither of Us, Uncertainly, Twilight At Carbon Lake
Fluorescent Grey EP- Fluorescent Grey, Wash Off

still need to listen to Rainwater Cassette Exchange and Turn It Up Faggot more

I saw this trailer the other day and the quality and intensity is amazing. It was posted back in 2010 so it seems that there will actually be a release for this
