All I've heard from her is her cover of "Postcards from Italy" by Beirut and I LOVED it.

I saw her dancing to Beyoncé, and decided to like her.

Honestly? I think she is terrible. I'll never get the hour back that I saw her when she was supporting in May. Almost as bad as Bats for Lashes or whatever she is called. :(

She was fun on the Shockwaves tour :) She ditched the maxi dresses and wore pants instead and she moved in weird ways and screamed occasionally. Can´t wait for her album 8)

So do I. *sigh* I want red hair now but like fiery red hair...it looks so...........awesome. Redheads are brilliant they remind me of Irish princesses called Gwendolyn who hang out it castles nearby the forests that are filled with cenataurs and dragons.

^ I blame Harry Potter books for that weird outburst.

someone said she looked like a man in drag.. i thought it was mean. i love her hair!

i have listened to her music a bit and tbh can't see what the fuss is about, it's okay but nothing special! guess i should give it another try.

Yeah, I can see why they'd say that - there's something jocular about her. But, to me, that's part of the 'incongruency' I mentioned earlier. :) It's all cool.

I must look those words up and write them in my English book! The joy of learning :D

it's because she's got quite manly features, no offence to her, quite a strong jawline and nose. plus the heavy make up doesn't help. aww bless her, she is pretty.

Ah, she's so amazing.

She was at Øya, but I didn't bother seeing her, I didn't really know her music at that time..
Bought Q last weekend, with a review of her show etc at Øya. Apparently she had a signing, walked around at the festival area etc... oh what have I missed!

The only time she's played in Norway when I was in Oslo at the same time, was when she played at Øya. I WAS EVEN AT ØYA >:(
That's the only place she's played over here which wasn't 18+ I think.@cawktvk@tdv

I saw her last week and she was incredible!! ;D
Such a brilliant stage presence, and woahh, that voice. She did all the usual weird dancing, and climbed up on top of the speakers and ended up hitting her head aha. Then she started crying when we were all singing along to one of the songs that aren't on the album. The crowd were a bit crap to start off with, but she got everyone jumping towards the end. My favourites would have to be You've Got The Love or Dog Days Are Over

She`s incredible. I want her to be my best friend, and I want her clothes, voice, legs, career.
I`d love to see her live.
I hope I`ll somehow be able to go to Vienna, she has a concert there in March I believe.
I also hope she stamps all over her competition at the Brits.

Yeah, I was expecting something really floaty and...more fitting to the song. It just looked like she was doing a photoshoot.

Ooh what song did she do? Wasn't it with Dizzee Rascal? (I will watch the vids tomorrow, can't wait).

I can guarantee you will have an awesome time, she really can work the crowd. Also to prepare you, she plays some of her older stuff incase you don't know it yet? And she may climb up the speakers. :D
God I want to see her so bad again, but I don't know if I'll ever get the chance again. She'll sell out easily.

I wanna be her!
I`m seriously thinking of dying my hair red now.
Where can we see Hurricane Drunk? I just looked and it`s not on youtube.
What did she perform at the Brits? I knew she was gonna win!
The part gossip mag, part TV schedule in my country mistook her for Cheryl Cole and vice versa, at the Brits performances.
Idiots.

Also Cosmic Love rules hard! I`d cut my arms off to be able to see this at Glasto:

...legs, legs!!!

Fact: her birthday is a day after mine.

Erm she played some covers she's done like Hospital Beds I think, and also not exactly old but songs off the luxury album like Bird Song and Hardest Of Hearts. Then one I didn't recognise, but some people sang along, which made her cry. :')

What do you guys think of the new "dog days are over" video?
In my opinion, the old one was so much better.

This boy here has written a perfect review http://www.last.fm/event/1334405+Florence+-+The+Machine+at+Bikini+on+13+March+2010/reviews
I need to know this person because his english is so good! I mean, I know who he is 'cause it was just the 5 of us there queuing for a while...

I'm just gonna say that Florence fucking Welch held my fucking hand and I almost died LOL

http://www.youtube.com/v/9kyaUVFEIJ0
Amazing doesn't even begin to cover it, I was two people away from her mic (to the right) so I had her in front of me dancing and jumping most of the time, I had to watch out cause I had my arms on the stage and I was scared I'd make her trip or something. She's amazing, if you have a chance go see her because it's an otherwordly experience (if you like her music).

It sucks to go to a concert with peeps who are really into it. My two times to see the boys I was with diehard fans and it really added to the experience. I've been to see people I loved with people who didn't really care and it brought me down.

I was really really bummed yesterday before the concert and today too. I've been crying of both happiness and sadness. I gave tickets to my two closest friends as a present for their birthday (they both have their birthdays at the end of December) and they both like Florence or so they said. Anyway, they knew how big of a deal it was for me yet they didn't care to show up earlier and be with me at the queue. I was lucky enough that I sort of talked with the people around there and they saved my spot while I went to the toilet and everything plus I spent one hour just to go to my friend's apartment and leave their 2 tickets there cause I knew they'd be late. They arrived 1 minute before the opening act started and then they went to the bar 15 minutes after. So I can say, I was alone all the time. I don't care though cause I had an amazing time but it still sucks cause I do stuff for people and they don't appreciate it and just take me for granted cause I'm this happy person all the time.

Yeah, I definitely will! She'll be in the tent, because she could only be there on Wednesday, which already was booked for Dizzee on the middle stage at midnight... it's gonna be so packed, I guess I'll have to be there quite a while before she gets on

She did a REALLY good cover of this song, in my opinion. I love her though, so even if it was horrible, I'd probably say it was amazing.

I'm sooo glad there is a thread for this amazing woman! :D

i saw her live in feb when she came to Australia, my friend and i lined up for 4 hours and we got to the front of the stage and it was the first time i had ever been that close ever at a concert.
she knelt down to touch our hands but im soo short i couldnt reach her :(
but my friend got to touch her hand...she knew how upset i was and wiped her hand all over my arm hahaha.
she is soo nice she threw parts of her necklace to the crowd, i caught some of it.

we went behind the venue so we could see if we could catch her, but she was inside at the bar we got to meet her bass player Mark though, and wow he is absolutely lovely!

I was just telling my daughter today that if she ever plays the Mod Club in Toronto again we'd be there. The Mod is pretty intimate as it holds about 500 people and its a really great place.

Having subjected myself to watching some of her stuff from Glastonbury, it confirmed what I already knew from past experience - she's still fucking dreadful. I genuinely don't see how she has become so "big".

Note to Florence - wailing "woooohoooo ahhhhh" does not make you a good singer. Please rectify. Love, Ian.

^ she screams a lot but that's part of her appeal i think.

The only thing I don't like about Flo are her vids

ya...they don't really depict what she is about... but "Dogs Days" is interesting ..in a certain way.

Have you seen the new version? :-\

I found some info on a new song called "Strangeness and Charm" ...it looks like she's been debuting fairly recently but it's not officially a single...it may be on her new album next year ...at least from the info I've read so far.

I'm in love with her voice and I can't stop playing "Lungs" since november!
She's so stunning in live, so much love and energy! But when she talks to the audience she's totally sweet and a little shy. At the show she was worried about people moshing, she didn't want people to get hurt, so sweet of her :)

And I think she's a really beautiful girl, and very elegant.

Nonsense, EVERYONE cares what I say. ;D

No joke, I saw her when she was supporting these lot back 08 and on facebook I've got a picture with the caption "the support. florence and the machine. they weren't great". At least I'm consistent.

Also, her really red hair is clearly fake. See:

lol it's not really an illusion (I think you're kidding but just in case no one else gets it) she always talks about having to go out and dye it and how her 'real'/natural hair colour is a mousy brown.

On a vaguely serious note, it makes for a more memorable stage presence alone, so I can understand why she would do it. Every little helps and all that...

when i'm in the car alone, i blast 'rabbit heart' really loud and sing at the top of my voice, and generally get very into it, with hand gestures and everything. it's probably a bit dangerous, but the loudness is necessary so i don't hear my own voice!

...and her album Lungs is in top ten with iTunes

It was number one in the UK ;D

Wow though, she got four VMA nominations. I suspect that as she's performing/attending she'll at least get one.

....actually it is because we have Canadian content regulations (cancon) on TV and radio....so they have been played to death already and then more so when they go international. I live fairly close to where Avril Lavigne is from...no one dares to say her name anymore for fear of being cut.

^ I remember the days when my friend and I would sing "Skater Boy" at the top of our lungs in her room. We were 8 then, but at a sleepover this year my friends and I were playing Singstar and went nuts when "Skater Boy" came on. Probably because it's the only song we know all the lyrics too.

But back on topic, I only recently listened to Florence and the Machine, and I really like her voice. Some of her songs, lyrically, I don't find too engaging, but her voice ... I wish I could sing like that. But no, I have a stupid little choir girl voice.

I was really impressed with the VMA performance. I was never much of a fan but I guess I am now. Didn't even realize they were that popular now!

i hope she gets successful in america. her voice is incredible, but i doubt it'll happen. america seems to be way more into r&b and bubblegum pop. i mean, the closest we've got to english pop stars is lily allen and flo.
i remember in an interview florence was saying her and andrew share clothes... i'm thinking the kiwi jumper might be hers?

Performance last night was good but tbh I think she's easily done better than it, maybe it is just her image changing a bit or for MTV but I was looking forward to seeing a 'darker' side of her with screaming and all. I like it when she gets a bit wild.

Idk she's such a nice girl I hope she doesn't get caught up in 'breaking America', she's already made it in the music industry imo as long as she's making music that she's excited about and constantly trying to make performing a better experience. Like when I saw her at the Hammersmith Apollo she was making sure everybody in the front row got water.

She is performing at Terminal 5 soon which I guess is a pretty big venue 'considering that it's America', idk there must be something about it because I remember people making a big deal that AC were playing there.

I was actually thinking in more selfish terms of the US being exposed to more good music, like Florence. Should we just save it all for Europe? :-\

Terminal 5 isn't a big venue.

if she went down a more mainstream pop route she'd probably get more exposure. i'm hoping she doesn't unless that's truly what she wants to do with her music, which is highly unlikely.
anyway, it doesn't matter. in the end if she gets popular it'll be because people like her music and word will spread. if not then she'll have to be some sort of indie thing in america.

I don't want her to change ffs, I just want her to have a little airplay here so we can listen to something better than fucking Kanye West on the radio.

we don't need radios anymore. that's what ipods are for. :) i wish kanye would do something funny... i'm nearly done watching VMAs (it's only just aired in england) and he's not done anything.

You're right but unfortunately the corporate money makers tend to ruin everything by turning into it commercial cheese...hopefully this doesn't happen to her.

Well it would be nice if people I knew knew he she was. No one has heard of any of the music that I like because it isn't exposed. If you aren't introduced to it then it isn't on your radar. MGMT is finally getting a bit of exposure in the US....too bad they didn't remain true to themselves :P

I mean there's mainstream and there's alt mainstream....I don't want her to be Justin Bieber. It just would be nice to have some more good music around...more sort of "mainstream alt." I can't stand Arcade Fire, but there's an example of a band with some exposure...The Killers? Phoenix, Hockey.

oh, noow i get ya. ;) i only like the arcade fire song. only because of where the wild things are, though. she probably could get up to that kind of fame. i think if she did make a breakthrough she could be somewhat of an icon because of her quirkiness and she sure as hell can hold a note.

MGMT did stay true to themselves and look at the shit and abuse they took from the media....it wasn't just in North America either.

I gave up years ago on what my friends listen too as most of it is country and I loathe country. I hate it though when an artist changes to accommodate the American record industry machine in order to appease the masses.

i think they got some respect for staying true to themselves. depends on which magazine you read, because i remember almost everyone one of them being on the borderline between ''trying to alienate old fans'' or ''making music they wanted''.

i hate country, too. i'm so glad nobody listens to it over here, with the exception of taylor swift who is slightly country.

I always skip Kiss with a Fist. It's kind of annoying. I like the acapella version she did during a 2007 gig though.

I'm looking forward to SNL

Florence was on Chelsea Lately tonight. It was her first talk show appearance ever, and she was so adorable. Chelsea is obsessed with her too, so she got some good publicity!

She's one of my favourite artists. She's a redhead (which I adore) and she has an amazing voice.

I'm totaly loving Hurricane Drunk And Howl this week. I've never heard these two tracks before <3

Plus, I can totaly sing Rabbit Heart in both tones she sings to in the album version. 8)

Still I'm no Florence but,

I know. I cried for days after I saw her live, she's so fucking good. I still remember riding in the car with you and talking about her and about how she wasn't famous in the US at all. It's weird seeing her everywhere now. I just hope she doesn't pull a Kings of Leon.

I'm sorry :( I was excited to see that she was coming to town, but then I saw that it's one of those shows with U2 >:( and I'm sorry, but I really don't fancy U2 at all (and no, it's not because the boys don't like them...I've never liked U2)

I sure hope Drake isn't on the album! I'm getting a little tired of seeing Jimmy pop up everywhere in the music world.

A couple days ago I was curious about her music and gave her album a listen, and her songs have been in my head everyday sense. From the videos I've seen she looks like an amazing performer, and I absolutely love her fashion. My favorite songs are Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up), Drumming Song, Howl, and You've Got the Love.

Here's a recent interview/performance:

I love the song Howl, her voice feels so visceral and passionate. I can picture her transforming into a she-wolf and devouring her lover.

The Drumming Song makes me think of Edgar Allan Poe's The Telltale Heart...the pounding of a guilty heart that is louder than love and hotter than hell.

While I agree that it's not very flattering, I do think the concept of the mirrored images is a cool metaphor. All that really matters in the end is that the music is good, though

Thanks for the link Coralie, I'd just written out a big reply when I accidentally closed the tab on Firefox...

Anyway there's only about 4 weeks left until the album is released. I wonder if she'll tour again - she hasn't done a proper gig in London since the Hammersmith Apollo shows where I last saw her. She's scheduled to headline the Creator's Project in New York though.
I'm not too sure about the sound of the songs. on the new album but I know that I was originally dissapointed with her first album but then came to love it so maybe it just needs some time. From the previews I think No Light No Light, Seven Devils and Heartlines. I wish the Strangeness & Charm wasn't just a bonus track but I guess it sounds too much like the first album or something.

I remember when we first got to hear Lungs, we had waited for SO LONG. I think we initially didn't like it cause we were used to the rawness of the live versions we had been listening for months and months. I'm expecting not to like the new album but I hope I'll be surprised.

Thank you both! (For posting the Amazon previews and the telling of The Creator's Project! I've been dying to see her, I really hope I can get in! Just RSPVed)
The sound of this album is SO different than Lungs! I'm not sure if I like it or not... but, I think I am liking it (am I the only one being happy for this era already? hahah). I have to hear the full things, though. Still so excited!

I remember when we first got to hear Lungs, we had waited for SO LONG. I think we initially didn't like it cause we were used to the rawness of the live versions we had been listening for months and months. I'm expecting not to like the new album but I hope I'll be surprised.

Yeah, the production kind of scared me. I fell in love with her because she was this weird, dark, artsy girl howling away on stage with a big voice but now with this next album it she seems to be more of a woman singing about relationships and stuff. I hope she keeps her quirk.

But anyway yeah I agree with gulsah, should probably here the whole thing before making any big judgements.

I like Lungs a lot, especially Howl and The Drumming Song. I guess I'm hoping for a dark vibe like that in their new songs. Shake it Out is giving off Celine Dion vibes to me though, but I like the visuals.

That's what happened to me last time she was in NY. I missed all of her shows and I was certain to get those, but, that happened :/
Hopefully you can find tickets for a good price!

I'll try.. I doubt it since there's so many people looking for tickets... I think I'll go there anyway since it's just 10 min. from where I'm living, and see if anyone has a spare ticket

I'm sorry, that sucks. I'd like to go too but I'm already seeing Twin Sister and Real Estate that night and tbh even though it seems like a special show I'd rather go for the rare opportunity to see both these bands in the UK rather than Florence who I've already seen twice.
Also I was at school then and I bet the facevalue tickets were really expensive anyway.

THE ANGELS AND HEAVENS CAME DOWN AS FLO ENTERED THE STAGE
OMFG! I GOT SO ROWDY LOL! The most I've danced and screamed since Britney Spears (but Britney was more lol) I was dancing and singing like no tomorrow! We (my best friend and I) looked at the crowd and they weren't hyper like us at all haha! We kept shaking the bench because we kept stomping and dancing so much haha! We've waited way too long for this moment! She did SO flawless! Her voice and lungs and UGH, she is absolutely amazing live and stunning as all hell! Raise It Up was THEEEEE funnest! And the rendition they played was just amazing! They played I think 5 new songs? I'm DEFINITELY going to like this album! I LOVE the song "Spectrum"!!!! They performed "No Light, No Light", "Never Let Me Go" (SO beautiful), "Only If For A Night" & "Heartlines". They also played "Cosmic Love", "Raise It Up", "Dog Days Are Over", "Between Two Lungs", & I think "You've Got The Love" I can't remember. I'm pretty sure that was it, though ha! Either they are just amazing live or this album is so right for my taste! Anywho, Florence+The Machine were amazing last night and I had a blast!

She was just like a moon goddess and her songs sounded so amazing in live!
Now, I just wait patiently to hold the album in my hands and to create a good atmosphere to listen to it :)

apologies for the double post, but I am really quite surprised by the gospely feel of many of the songs. It wasn't at all what I expected from what I had heard up to that point.

But it's a good surprise and worth many more listens!
