There is just so much brown, tan and beige going on in that picture. It's messing with my eyes.
it's... mega-beige.

MGMT did stay true to themselves and look at the shit and abuse they took from the media....it wasn't just in North America either.

I gave up years ago on what my friends listen too as most of it is country and I loathe country.  I hate it though when an artist changes  to accommodate the American record industry machine in order to appease the masses.
i think they got some respect for staying true to themselves. depends on which magazine you read, because i remember almost everyone one of them being on the borderline between ''trying to alienate old fans'' or ''making music they wanted''.

i hate country, too. i'm so glad nobody listens to it over here, with the exception of taylor swift who is slightly country.

Well it would be nice if people I knew knew he she was.  No one has heard of any of the music that I like because it isn't exposed.  If you aren't introduced to it then it isn't on your radar.  MGMT is finally getting a bit of exposure in the US....too bad they didn't remain true to themselves  :P
what do you mean?

A couple of people implied that for Florence to make it in the US she couldn't be true to herself...I'm calling bullshit.
oooh i thought you said that MGMT got famous by not being true to themselves. misunderstood. with her voice she could make it, but i'm not sure how her genre would land. american mainstream seems to be different to english mainstream.

I mean there's mainstream and there's alt mainstream....I don't want her to be Justin Bieber.  It just would be nice to have some more good music around...more sort of "mainstream alt."  I can't stand Arcade Fire, but there's an example of a band with some exposure...The Killers?  Phoenix, Hockey.
oh, noow i get ya.  ;) i only like the arcade fire song. only because of where the wild things are, though. she probably could get up to that kind of fame. i think if she did make a breakthrough she could be somewhat of an icon because of her quirkiness and she sure as hell can hold a note.

I was actually thinking in more selfish terms of the US being exposed to more good music, like Florence.  Should we just save it all for Europe?  :-\

Terminal 5 isn't a big venue.
if she went down a more mainstream pop route she'd probably get more exposure. i'm hoping she doesn't unless that's truly what she wants to do with her music, which is highly unlikely.
anyway, it doesn't matter. in the end if she gets popular it'll be because people like her music and word will spread. if not then she'll have to be some sort of indie thing in america.

I don't want her to change ffs, I just want her to have a little airplay here so we can listen to something better than fucking Kanye West on the radio.
we don't need radios anymore. that's what ipods are for.  :) i wish kanye would do something funny... i'm nearly done watching VMAs (it's only just aired in england) and he's not done anything.

I was really impressed with the VMA performance. I was never much of a fan but I guess I am now. Didn't even realize they were that popular now!

She has MTVs eye because of her popularity in Europe.  She's all but unknown in the US...until last night, that is  ;D
i hope she gets successful in america. her voice is incredible, but i doubt it'll happen. america seems to be way more into r&b and bubblegum pop. i mean, the closest we've got to english pop stars is lily allen and flo.
i remember in an interview florence was saying her and andrew share clothes... i'm thinking the kiwi jumper might be hers her grandmother's?
:D good one. my dad used to wear jumpers just like it and even he grew out of them. i can see this jumper getting a tiny bit threadworthy. ''MGMT clothes - ugly or hot?''

I like Gatorade
it's all about the mountain dew. i miss america. all i got is fizzy vimto.  :(

I can't handle the Dew...my daughter drinks it when she needs the extra caffeine.  I'm a diet Dr. Pepper girl.
ikr. so much caffeine. when i went to america with this tour group we got there at 3 AM and we literally got off the plane and went straight to the empire state building. we were so tired so we all bought mountain dew and suddenly we were wide awake again.
my mate once put a mento in this bottle of dr. pepper and it exploded, hit a wall and bounced back at him, bruising his leg. he just lay on the floor holding his knee and i was like ''doooctooor pepper.. what's the woorst that could happen?'' hahah.

hahahahaha...there are loads of youtube videos of that procedure.
of the mento and coke?  some guy at a party i went to tried to do it... up his arse. because ''birds like bravery''. doh.
