Wow I can't believe the album's been out this long and no one stepped up to the plate to comment... even though we're dead supposedly!

One Thing Left to Try, Little Dark Age, and When You Die are my 3 favs. You?! Anyone!?

It just sounds so solid right now. We know they know how to master their work... The live stuff all sounds like some of their pop-y best so far, (especially for new work that stands up to their older work) and it has a GOTHIC theme. Who doesn't love that guys... c'mon... what, is Tim Burton doing one of their music videos now?! I'd love that... it'd give him something good to direct again!

Congratulations II, here we come!

THIS is a good track. If people who spend their whole lives listening to music as a job (Pitchfork, etc) want to downgrade work like this cause it pays homage to classic artists like The Cure, (and also genuinely falls within the category of their older MGMT songs. Which are now. *gasp* CLASSICS!!!!) they can just go listen to some best-of Cure compilations and leave the listening to people who don't think the next best song is some boring-arse excuse to do drugs in your friend's basement.......

(That was a figurative statement... I'm in an apartment and there are no basements on my end)

There's a joke they made out there (a couple times...) about living in castles when they dropped the first album.... I'm too lazy to source it, but... yup... living the dream guys. Good show. :)

I just imagine that since it's the follow up to an album with the two in front of "Stylz Unlimited" that they came back with a clever little 'concept' that's going to let them finish off.... at least the record contract with Columbia  ;)

"I can hear Blonde Redhead's Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons and 23 in this album... Or am I just crazy?
I'm glad they're entering genres like EDM and house music and still staying in the 60's psychadellic realm with it. There was always that sort of flirty, flamboyant poetry thing with some 60's music I didn't like but MGMT not only pulls it off with style but they make it relevant for our time. Only other complaint is some of their sounds sound a little too movie soundtrack for my taste.
I really hope all of this great music lately, not to mention to accessibility of music in general, is going to spawn a generation of music to rival the best.... but maybe I'm just dreaming"

That was my third album review on this forum back in the day... Where are they now? Time will tell. :)

Saw Tame Impala last night and asked the Kuroma gang if Andrew and Ben were hiding in a cavern off the coast of France doing space drugs or something and they said yeah.

Is anyone hoping their Electronic EP will play like a continuous Chemical Brothers album with Andrew singing or is that just me?

I can't believe MGMT's been holding back on us with this Credence Clear Water Revival/Temple of the Dog sounding music. If it was written back during the Kids time, I bet if they spruced it up a bit and released it,  it would shut a lot of angry fans up.

I guess that's their opinion but I don't agree and I know many others do not as well.

I feel like the reviewer didn't really review the music, he just sort of made fun of them and their success....am i the only one getting that?

It's like what Pitchfork did last time with Congratulations. As long as Kanye gets his asshole licked thoroughly every go around it's all right to crap on real music.

I can hear Blonde Redhead's Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons and 23 in this album...

I'm totally getting the movie soundtrack thing but I don't see it as a negative.  Cool Song just makes me smile because I can just imagine some sort of futuristic jetpack sci fi chase scene  :D

I also love how you worded their 60's take.  Okay.  I'm going to shut up for now.  It's time for my other passion-Vamos Rafa!!!!

The "Here's a growing culture..." chant in Flash Delirium got on my nerves the first 20 listens or so too... sometimes they like to do these really ridiculous things musically that are cool and original but kind of lose it for me execution wise.  Parts of Cool Song, I Love You Too, Death, and Astro Mancy only have minimal parts like that for me. All in all it's such a solid piece of work though.... It fits together so well!

In regards to A Good Sadness... Looks like we've been in the same hell... What the hell does that song sound like?! It has to be a song in a movie...... ;) ;)
