It's almost two years to the day (Aug 4) that I seen and met them in Montreal. Not missing this for anything. It should also be mentioned that Tame Impala, Atlas Sound, and Snoop Dogg are also playing. Holy god.

OMFG and Brand New is going to be there too! Is it possible to obtain a passport in 4 months?

wow. I'm going to be up all night wondering if I should do this or not. This is the first time that attending a festival has even been a possibility for me and the lineup is amazing and it would be super easy and affordable for me to get to Montreal. AHHHHH

Do we have any Osheaga veterans on the board that can give us some info?  I'm wondering how many stages.

How did these people manage to get 4 of my all-time favorite bands on one line-up? They must have elves working this thing.

Do we have any Osheaga veterans on the board that can give us some info?  I'm wondering how many stages.

I've been going to Osheaga since 2010 and what I can tell you is that it's a pretty small festival (compared to the likes of Glastonbury, maybe even Lolla) and there probably 5 or 6 different stages. There are two main stages which host the headliners, and are located right next to each other. The good thing about this that i've noticed is that only one of the two main stages is used at a time, so you don't have to worry about any major clashes. (Example: MGMT may play main stage 1 while The Black Keys prepare their set up over on main stage 2) and so forth.

Osheaga itself is located on Park Jean-Drapeau, a beautiful island in Eastern Montreal and has a lot of scenery. The festival never usually sells out since it takes place on this huge island, so you shouldn't have to worry about that. Food and alcohol can be a little pricy, but I guess it's pretty similar at other festivals. They do give out free underwear though, so that's pretty cool. But yeah, it's a really nice, tiny festival combining an impressing roster of musicians with local talent while retaining the comforts of being able to breath and not down someone's neck. There is no camping due to governmental laws, but that's okay with me.

My guess is that MGMT will play one of the main stages, perhaps around sundown judging from their place on the lineup poster, but don't be surprised if they play a smaller stage. Devo played one of the smallest stages at the festival in 2010. Hope this helps, and I hope to see some of you there :)

Hahaha, oh you guys. In all seriousness though i'm not sure if it happens every year, but there were some booths giving away american apparel undies in promotion of some new clothing collection or something back in 2010. Also scored a "legalize gay" thong thanks to the sonic youth crowd  8)

The bit about this festival not selling out fast...
I feel like with this lineup and my luck they'll be out in a second.
If it was to only wait maybe a week or two more than that date (for tickets to go on sale) I would have convinced myself to go  :'(

I read that it's only 30,000 people...not sure if that's correct or not, but I can't imagine it not selling out with that line up.

VERY expensive, and I've yet to see a list of what bands are playing what day and the cost of one day tickets which is a huge factor, I think.

I bet most people are in our position just the same, hoping it didn't sell out while they decide.

Sadly I don't think I can afford the tickets, travel, hotel, food, plus I have to get a passport(even though I really should get one anyways) which costs money too. This is like my dream concert, someone PLEASE see Brand New for me! ;D

Yeah, I'm looking at AT LEAST $1000 person (I'm taking Scotty) and that's just tickets, air and hotel.

Yeah I checked out plane tickets and the cheapest I could find was $1200-$1300(round trip) from STL and I checked out my train option but couldn't find anything that goes up to Montreal. I think I'm just going to have to stick with the PA festival. :(

Tickets have not sold out in the past, even when Arcade Fire headlined in 2010, and they are Montreals babies! That being said its always better to be safe than sorry. They usually sell two day and single day tickets, which are a lot cheaper. Hopefully they do that again this year.

Yeah, I'm having to play it all by ear. I wouldn't be able to put money down on anything till early June and that might be too late. It also depends on what days I'll be working in the beginning months of my job. If it doesn't work out, I'm sure there will be another festival at some point, but I really want to make it work.
Title: Re: MGMT @ Osheaga 2012
Post by: misty on March 22, 2012, 05:06:57 PM
I was just talking with my daughter and we both have a feeling that this might sell out quick.  Home grown talent such as Arcade Fire never sells out quick due to the fact that many people think they'll being able to catch seeing them anytime..or probably have already seen them numerous times already.  The tickets are pricey so that might keep them from selling out too quickly.

For those wondering they've said on their facebook page that the daily line up will be announced in april, and that they'll be selling single day tickets at that time if any are available.
I also think it will sell out pretty fast. I personally think this year's line up is a lot stronger than it has been in the past.

Oh I'm sure. Kinda disappoints me in general... I've never been one for borders. It's just silly because my dad has never done anything wrong and now he'll probably never see many places.

But as far as this festival goes, I probably wasn't going, anyway. So I'll be there in spirit xD

Canada has extreme border laws for misdemeanors.  You can go most places and never be checked as long as you have a passport.

I think it's a universal agreement that the band we are all most psyched for is MGMT, but what other bands are you guys looking forward to seeing?! I'm pretty excited about getting to see Tame Impala and Atlas Sound as well! Not to mention more artists will be announced in April with the daily lineup :)

Tame Impala, Yeasayer, Atlas Sound, Sigur Ros, M83, Bloc Party, Portugal. The Man, Passion Pit, and that's just a start.  The only ones I haven't seen yet out of those though is Sigur Ros so that will be another off the list.

I'm seeing Metric, Arkells, and Sheepdogs in June so I'm not bothered seeing them in Osheaga.

....The Black Keys will be awesome to see again they put on a great show.

^ I was about to mention Snoop! I saw him at Osheaga in 2010 and he was hilarious. Snoop is a legend and puts on a great show. You WILL get high automatically from just standing in the audience. To those of you who aren't so enthusiastic about that, I suggest staying a little further back  ;)

My boyfriend and I booked flights to see Radiohead in Montreal. Then we realize that this masterpiece of a lineup is happening... Montreal twice in one summer? It's starting to become a possibility. Essentially all my favorite bands are there. I'm astounded at how much better the lineup is from last year. Not that last year was bad, it was amazing... But... I would give up last year (including Flaming Lips, sad to say) to go this year. I need to work A LOT this summer if this is to happen.

So perhaps I'm just an idiot.....The days on the Osheaga "schedule" actually aren't a schedule yet.  For example, TBK are playing Saturday and Justice is Friday.  Young The Giant is Saturday.  If I could get a fucking confirmation that Tame Impala is on Friday or Saturday, I'd drive down to Musikfest.

I'm really thinking I have to go. My bf and I were searching up all of the bands the other night and basically ALL of them are excellent. The only problem is we wouldn't be able to see all of them.

The trouble for me is money. Uni + Music festivals/concerts all summer = broke. I'm really hoping I can get someone to take over my lease on my apartment from May on so that I don't have to pay an extra 1000 dollars for a place I won't be living in. In this case, I think I would most definitely go. And taking a train would only be 250 or so... I REALLY WANT TO GOOOOOO. Plus y'all are all going and I think it would break my heart to hear stories and see pictures and I wouldn't be able to say that I was there. It's so close to me. :( And so do-able. And I'm familiar with the festival from last year.

PLZ LYFE, LET THIS WORK FOR ME.

You're a special momma. So how far are you from Montreal then, in hours? You're probably close to my distance. Except if I'm going it would likely be plane/train. My mum would have a bird if I drove... Not that that would stop me if I had absolutely no other means.

P.S. Someone walking around the shop right now has an MGMT ringtone ;)

Osheaga
Big announce coming up tomorrow! Get ready for a slew of new artists, daily lineups, and deets on Single-Day Tix & 2-Day Weekend Passes!

Who would you like to see added?  My pipe dream?  Vampire Weekend and Warpaint.

You read me and ac's minds.  :)

If Vampire Weekend were added, I would vomit. This lineup seriously consists of all of my favorite bands minus VW and Of Montreal. It's terrifying. In a beautiful, amazing way.

Haha for real :) I also can't wait for the lineup and this announcement!
I would Love to see the Beach Boys added, as they just released a song today and its pretty good!
I read somewhere that the Jesus and Mary Chain might do it, used to really like them.
I would LOVE if Vampire Weekend played cuz I haven't seen them yet! But i doubt it since they've said they won't play until they release their album.
It's terrifyingly beautiful that all my favourite bands are playing too! :) EXCEPT: Beach House! If Beach House played, I'd be really happy but to be honest... they'd probably get a crappy short set in the blaring sun and with their slow music, it kind of is not the right setting for them. After i saw them in an amazing venue with the sound perrrfect, nothing can top that.
I'm really rooting for Suckers, one of my new favourites :)
I really think theres going to be a reunion and/or hologram performance like TLC --> http://www.aux.tv/2012/04/tlc-plan-a-reunion-tour-using-video-and-vocals-of-deceased-member-lisa-left-eye-lopes/ (http://www.aux.tv/2012/04/tlc-plan-a-reunion-tour-using-video-and-vocals-of-deceased-member-lisa-left-eye-lopes/)

I hated tupac's but if they use real video it might be cool.

Im buying my ticket tonight  ;D

Just saw this under some blog's facebook... "So, The Jesus And Mary Chain are supposedly playing at Osheaga on August 4th. It was published on their website under their tour dates but removed moments later. We have a feeling that it's because Osheaga probably wanted to announce it themselves. Crossing our fingers!"

As you can see, all this hoopla is the highlight of my week of getting over the flu. jesus and mary chain would be pretty epic

Title: Re: MGMT @ Osheaga 2012
Post by: lala on April 26, 2012, 03:34:31 PM
There are two main stages which will close with a headliner each night. The next two biggest acts will most likely sub for those two headliners. The other stages are very small and wouldn't support larger acts.

Much to my dismay, I have been forced to give up my 3-day pass due to lack of funds/it suddenly becoming extremely inconvenient for me. I'm selling it at face value of $217.50, so you wouldn't have to deal with any of those silly fees. Feel free to contact me through here, but I'll link the craigslist posting as well.

The main acts will all play on the two main stages and they'll alternate.  There will be smaller acts playing on the smaller stages at the same time.  A sub is a band that plays before a headliner.  MGMT will sub for one of the headliners.

I need clarification...

I've heard it pronounced, Oh-shay-gah, and Oh-she-ay-gah.  Which is correct?
Title: Re: MGMT @ Osheaga 2012
Post by: Daisy :) on May 11, 2012, 08:43:56 PM
According to English grammar letter functions, it could be either.
Title: Re: MGMT @ Osheaga 2012
Post by: larissa on May 11, 2012, 10:01:59 PM
I say oh-she-ay-gah. But, I believe there is a video or something of the like on the website that introduces you to Osheaga and where it originates... I just found this on the Osheaga site in FAQ whilst looking for said video (which I don't believe was actually on the site, maybe somewhere in the internet abyss):

Quote
The Mohawk pronunciation is O (hard o)- she(soft e)- ha – ga, or, when spoken quickly, the second “h” is dropped.

So, oh-sheh-ha-gah or oh-sheh-ah-gah. I will still say o-she-ay-ga. Mostly because my PEI twang doesn't allow me to use such proper English. :)

I say oh-shay-ah-ga....so does my daughter.  It's probs not correct as I usually don't say things correctly.  I blame my years growing up in Europe and the maritimes for that.
Title: Re: MGMT @ Osheaga 2012
Post by: larissa on May 12, 2012, 10:14:13 AM
You used to live in the Maritimes, I did not know! It can definitely screw up your pronunciation of things. A group of us were told the other day that we apparently say car and bar wrong. It's supposed to be "cawr" and "bawr" or something, and we say "carrr" and "barrr". So where did you used to live?! :)

I lived in New Brunswick from 9 years old to 15. The formative speech years.  I've worked on subdueing the accent over the years so I don't have much of it now but I still get asked occasionally if I'm from New York.  I lived in Germany from two years old to six and back again at 15 to 21 and have been in various places in Ontario since. Lol

I'm getting giddy.  This isn't helped by the fact that 4 out of 5 bands played on Alt Nation are going to be there.  At some point my kids are just gonna smack me when I exclaim, "They're gonna be at Osheaga!!!"

This would be good if you could just be put in a room with two other random people, I wouldn't be able to figure out two other people to stay with us! We've already booked Concordia Uni for the weekend anyway, it's almost double that price though, unfortunately! :( There's like no hostels left! Things are booking fast.

I lied, Concordia is 65 for BOTH people, so it's not more expensive. But yes, you're right on that, book quickly!

Where's everyone else staying? Hotels? Hostels? Under bridges? Just for curiosity's sake!

The residences rate is based on 4 to a room ..so any less than 4 and the rate increases.  It's not a huge savings over where we booked plus we are really close to everything and right on the metro line. :)

I like the idea of staying at a hostel, the one we stayed at for osheaga last year was so homey and nice, we were in old montreal and the people were kind and I liked to look out the window at a tin roof and the hustle-bustle noise of old montreal. We're staying at the same one for radiohead, but this time were really roughing it and staying in the 22-bed dorm. Last year we stayed in a private room. Plus the living room of the hostel has many musical instruments available for anyone to use, and a fridge, stove, and dishes to make your own food if need be.

My bf and I are staying in a double bed dorm for osheaga, paying 65 a night (altogether), I think it's a pretty sweet deal! Being a student, I need to save all the money I can. Metros are everywhere so it doesn't take long to get where you're going, regardless of where you're staying! So excited.  ;D

Ps, you guys always look so fab for music festivals, how do you wear those nice shoes when you're standing around for 10 hours a day?! I was killing myself in sanuks with gel insoles last year. Mind you I have a terrible back and dreadful posture. Thank god for my comfy new sandals. I think they'll save me this year. As well as ibuprofen.

Athletic sandals and shoes I find are way to heavy and hot (plus they make my feet look ginormous) ...I usually wear comfy flats or booties that are already broken it.  This year I think I'll be wearing my fringed moccasin booties ...they're super comfy.

Lala had an awesome pair of athletic sandals for Beale...super cute, light and stylish :)

I have a pair of Ecco sandals that are made for walking (athletic base or whatever) and they're gladiator style.  I think I wore them at Beale and Lolla.  They're normally over $100 but I bought them at the Zappos Outlet for $30.  I can get away with regular cute Sandals at Lolla because I sit on a blanket a lot.  I have great boots for Osheaga.

Just doing a bit of research-for those of you who are first timers to Montreal...we want to purchase a 3 day card for the Metro/buses.  It's $16 for unlimited for the duration of the festival.  They can be purchased at vending machines at the stations.  Note:  you don't want to purchase an Opus card-that's an additional $6.  You just want the temporary card.

....they said it's recommended to do this or at least buy your return tickets ahead of time because it could lead to lengthy wait to leave the park if you don't.

Yeah, we learned this at Lolla a couple of years ago.  The lines at the vending machines were ridic.  We bought the three day cards, saved $$ and bypassed the lines.

Mine are Merrell, I think they're going to be ideal. They're super light, form fitted to your foot, and they look decent. I think my feet will be better this year. :)

Also, that card will get you on buses as well, so you can go on a bus from the airport to wherever you're going with the same pass. If my mind serves me correctly, that is. Transportation is cheap cheap cheap in Montreal.

There's no lines for metro if that's what you're talking about, you just hop on as you please. First come, first serve kind of deal. I probably misinterpreted what you were trying to say though, haha.

iiiiiiiiiiii get it, in comparison to buying a one-way pass after the show. Gosh, don't do that shit anyone, buy a 3 day pass! It is money VERY well paid. Especially if you want to do any sort of exploring early in the day or anything. Metro takes you EVERYWHERE.  :)

Misty was referring to the lines for the vending machines-it's mentioned on the website.  Some tourists will just purchase a one ride card and then as they leave the park, there are long lines.  When cities have festivals, there are always lines at the machines in the morning as well.  Hence the 3 day pass is invaluable.

I've mapped our route from our hotel.  Metro station is 3 blocks away, ride for two stops, change and we're there in one stop :D

I swear I could eat my way through festivals and never see a band and be content.  I think it's great how they really strive to make excellent food a part of the experience.  Except for Beale, lol.  They haven't quite caught up.  Memphis BBQ is awesome, but not for every meal.

I've started my Osheaga homework.  Loving M83.

Well, I think we're planning on driving now, so hopefully we'll be arriving Thursday night. I still have to discuss it with my mom, she was NOT having that last year and we ended up flying for WAY too much money. That's another thing, do you mind if I PM you, I wanted to consult you on this matter, you being a mom and all. :) I'm not sure what to say about something to do... I mean, if you guys had a hotel room or something I think that would do fairly well, unless the hotel is somewhat strict.

Right. If you wait 'til I go to Montreal in like a week I'll let you know what we can do, after I explore it more I'll probably have a better idea on what to do. Even if I ask my boyfriend he might have an idea or two, he's better at this than I am. :)

Katie. is staying with us, so if we need any spiders killed or carriages procured, we have our very own super hero  ;D

I may or may not be looking into the cinderella carriage offerings of Montreal as we speak.

Yayy thank you! Mgmt pretty much have a headliner slot, they're playing for over an hour!!! :) buttt their set overlaps with justice and sigur ros :( but I don't care they're playing for an hour and 15 minutes and no ones after them so maybe longer!!!!! :);):):):):):);):):);)

so many conflicting acts i wanna see in this schedule though

So is mgmt not on a main stage?  I can't find a map.  They are closing their stage so I'm wondering if it's okay if they go over 1 hr. 15.  I'll have to miss Florence to get good position for MGMT and I don't think I'm up for that.  Freelance Whales only get 30 minutes and Fun. gets 45?  WTF?  I won't get to see Atlas Sound.  Yeasayer trumps Feist.  My biggest heartbreak is missing Airborne Toxic Event.  Ugh...so many conflicts. :(  And I think Ailsa may be coming.

im very sad about missing airborne toxic event too, i loved their album and have never seen them live. ive seen tame impala live though but must see them again because they're one of my most favourite bands. and i have to hear new music!

im making a list right now of bands i wanna see and conflicts, of which there are many. black lips for 30 minutes? :( and at the same time as plants and animals and cursive. but i have to see black lips because they're also one of my top favs. this kinda sucks and im kinda down about missing some of the few bands i really wanted to see, but mgmt closing their stage with a long set is making up for all of it, i swear :D i also cant find a map.

I'm having a lot of the same conflicts that you guys are, what a bummer. I guess it could be worse. The stage mgmt is playing on is really nice, it's kind of amongst trees and stuff, I'm really happy they're playing there tbh. Just not happy with the conflicts. I told my bf that if he ants to go to Sigur ros he can 'cause I can just chill with you guys.  8)

And that's awesome Ailsa may come! :)

Omg it would be so awesome if Ailsa comes.  All in all I'm quite happy with the schedule. I haven't really listened to Sigur Ros so I'm fine with missing them over Flo & MGMT...daughter is going to Flo, Sigur Ros and Justice.  It might not be too bad crowd wise for MGMT at the beginning because of the conflicts so there's a chance of moving up.  The only extreme conflict I have is Feist>Yeasayer....kinda hurts but I like Feist more.  I'm sooo happy on Sunday that City and Colour does not conflict with Black Keys. I was terribly worried over that.
Title: Re: MGMT @ Osheaga 2012
Post by: lala on July 10, 2012, 05:13:52 PM
I wasn't planning on seeing Justice, so I'm cool with that.  I'm a disappointed about Sigur Ros, but at the same time, I think it will keep a lot of people away from MGMT.  I just really wish that Flo was on the same stage as MGMT.  I've never seen her and I've seen MGMT 4,783,002,856,448 times.  I'm going to see M83 instead of The Black Keys.

MGMT/Sigur Ros/Justice overlapping is tragic. :'(

Otherwise I don't think I have any major conflicts and I am pleased with my schedule.

I'm going to see M83 instead of The Black Keys.

We're definitely going to see M83 over the Black Keys as well.

After taking a good look at it I'm actually pretty pleased with the schedule, I mean, there are a couple conflicts but there are a LOT of things that don't conflict. Also, I have to be very thankful that I am in attendance this year at all. I'm getting so excited!  :)

....if truth be told I would rather see M83 because I've already seen the Black Keys but it would literally break the bf's heart if I didn't go with him to see the Black Keys...there is an hour between between City and Colour and the Black Keys ...so I'll take in a bit of the M83 set.

I have to repeat how in shock and awe i am that MGMT is closing their stage and playing for over an hour!!!!!!!!

Its very wierd because I expected them to have a big set because they're one of the biggest names on the poster, but then i heard doubts from people. But the fact that on the poster, they're listed after the Shins and the Shins have a 6pm Sunday timeslot for one hour, and MGMT is closing the stage for 1 hour 15 minutes, I think is such a stroke of luck for us crazed fans! Some of my friends are staying for MGMT but are pissed they're missing Justice and are saying they're running to Justice when it's done, but I'm sorry if MGMT plays over their time I'm staying there til the last shoes are thrown..... (how awesome would that be the second time?)

also... chances on meeting them before/after their set? what would be the best way to go about doing so?

Unless you are VIP, there is little chance of meeting them at a festival.  Even then, it's still very slim.

I have been front row for MGMT more often than not and I've never seen Florence.   I'm def. going to Flo.

ill probably just leave it to a last minute decision depending on the size of the sennheiser stage crowd

hope everyone going has an amazing time!

I think I'll probably end up making a lot of last minute decisions once I have the lay of the land.  I have a lot of conflicts and it's tough for me because I'm such a planner by nature.  But you're right...sometimes it's easier to just see what you're feeling at the moment.

yeah I keep trying to plan out exactly who I want to see but I know in reality I'm just going to have to decide on the spot, once I know the layout and how many people there are and how realistic it's going to be to get from stage to stage. Trying not to dwell on who I'm going to miss because it's going to be amazing no matter what!

I was just listening to MGMT and it occurred to me that I'm seeing them in 11 days!  I have a tendency to sort of forget that part when I'm planning a big trip to see them because it tends to become about the trip and the people.  This is the longest it's been in between MGMT live performances since I became a fan.  The last time I saw them was Guggenheim in November.

However, in regards to Osheaga it does say -  "On the menu: songs from their first two albums … and maybe one or two new songs."  If you want to read the whole thing ... http://www.journaldemontreal.com/2012/07/25/un-album-en-preparation (http://www.journaldemontreal.com/2012/07/25/un-album-en-preparation)

thanks for that! they changed it to 5$ reduced entry.
and thanks lala i thought it was for sure, i dont mind a bit of rain but all 3 days would be a bummer.

Is anyone else having trouble thinking of stuff to bring? Should i wear running shoes all weekend? I never been to a festival  before and really dont want to be underprepared!

Running shoes are comfortable but if it's hot you'll want to chop your feet off...also if you get stuck in a downpour they can get quite gross and soggy.  A good comfy pair of sandals always works well.

I knew it, thanks so much! My aunt went there for the Indy before and said it was crazy, the subway was JAM PACKED, and to bring running shoes and a knapsack. I really didnt want to bring a bag or running shoes but I think I'll do the bag. I think my feet can handle sandals, besides it looks better  8)

You have to be fest fashionable :) ...though if you reallly want to wear sneakers, you can bring flips flops in case they get wet but then you're lugging around wet stinky sneakers for the rest of the day :P

Haha i know i was thinking of this! I think im just going to bring a bag for a bottle of water, jacket, bug spray, and thats it cuz i really dont want to lug a heavy bag around. if it rains, my feet will get muddy and maybe ill wash them off in the river. apparently theres a big river and its pretty :)

Check the forecast ....Montreal is quite steamy in the summer so a jacket probably isn't necessary.  I got one of those disposable rain ponchos about the size of passport and weighs nothing just case of a heavy downpour.  I don't deal well with rain so it's perfect.

I guess i can get one of those, and yea i only wanted to bring one in case it rained. So maybe no bag after all! Thanks!

It's wise to bring a bag for sunscreen etc...just keep it as lightweight as you can. What seems somewhat light in the afternoon will be heavy by nightfall.

I'm going to warn you, last year they had a gigantic water hose that they sprayed over the crowd once in a while, that would essentially SOAK you. So you likely will get wet (this was at the main stage, btw) because they'll likely spray it if it's going to be as hot as it was last year, and it sounds like it is!. And you liiikely won't need bug spray, I don't remember there being any bugs there whatsoever last year. I have a pretty large purse that I just stuff everything in. It's kind of annoying but I think this year I'll bring less stuff to the fest itself! Oh, and the river is very pretty. :)

Umm, so, still working out how we're getting there... Turns out my bfs car is NOT good to drive to Montreal, and mine is tiny... But we'll work something out. Ugh.

im taking a mega bus, its about 100$ round trip, but at least i dont have to worry about getting lost and i know ill get there on time... you should check if it departs from pei!

So I'm not going to be in Montreal until probably late tomorrow evening, there was a slight change in plans. I was so terrified last night that I wouldn't be going at all, I was watching MGMT on Jools Holland crying my eyes out because I was scared we wouldn't get there. But everything worked out, and I couldn't be happier. Is there any way I can keep in contact with one or more of you so that we can meet up on Friday for MGMT? I'm so excited! :)

Day from Hell.  Bestie called from South Carolina this morning, hysterical.  Her dog had been hit by a car and her daughter took him to the vet-could I meet her there?  I got there and Mandy was a wreck.  A few minutes later, they put Kirby down because of massive internal injuries.  I know that all of our pets are special, but we all sort of have that "One."  Kirby was that One in this family.  So tonight, we take Ailsa for a quick dinner (at Mojitos, Sizzle).  I won't share all of the details since they aren't mine to share, but we thought Ailsa was having a stroke and we rushed her to the hospital.  Four hours later, they think it was something called a complex migraine.  So anyway, I just finished packing and I have to get up in less than 4 hours to go to the airport.  Praying for sleep.

I hope Ailsa is okay! That sounds absolutely frightening. Above all else, Im sure you both were greatful that it happened when you were with her. I couldn't even imagine how you're feeling right now, let alone if it happened when she was multiple states away! Sending safe travel and positive vibes your way. *hugs*

I've seen this quote on several sites, including the official site...
problem is there's no such thing as a "hard o" or a "hard e" - vowels are either long or short - only consonants are "hard" or "soft"!

So it'd be great if someone who actually knows the English language could clarify the pronunciation...

To the person on the pronunciation of Osheaga (sorry quote isn't working for me rn) ...it is a native word so it is pronounced the native way.  Plus the fact Montreal, Quebec is uses the French language many things are pronounced differently.

Yesterday was pure win.  Today is our busiest schedule.  I'm really excited because they changed the schedule around and now Tame Impala and Airborne Toxic Event don't conflict.  It's raining now and since the park is a dust bowl, today will be a mud fest.

Here's a sample of what's on the menu today:
Osheaga Day 3: Chappo, Airborne Toxic Event, Passion Pit, Tame Impala, Santigold, The Shins, City and Colour, Metric, The Black Keys and M83

My flip cam died during Tame Impala.
Yesterday was one amazing performance after another.  Highlights:  Chappo, Airborne Toxic Event (front row, base player heard me yell and stopped and pulled up set list for me), Tame Impala (Elephants!), and glow stick party at M83.  The Shins were great but we were soaked and tired so we chilled for a while.

I'll do a full review later.  I'm absolutely shattered.  We don't fly out of Montreal until tonight.

Amazing festival! I loved it all but i went for mgmt and tame impala, and it made my weekend. Mgmt were just amazing, perfect. I love that Andrew screwed up the lyrics to Siberian breaks, it made me laugh. He also said a lovely thing about acting from the heart, and James said yeah use your heart not your brain, and it reminded me of its working.

Also they opened with future reflections and it made it seem even more surreal. And the fireworks! I took some video of mgmt, but more of tame impala because I watched them by myself and was closer, so I'll post those soon! I got apocalypse dreams and almost the whole song of elephant!

Also, ANGIE WAS BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Mgmt and tame impala, thanks for making a great weekend an effing PERFECT weekend!

That moment when your favorite member of your favorite band makes eye contact with you and excuses himself from the person he's talking to and comes over and hugs you.

Would that happen to be a certain wild haired, soft hearted man for whom this board would not exist without? ( I don't really know how to use 'whom'). If so, and even if not, that's the stuff my dreams are made of. How lucky you are! Sounds like you had an amazing time :) I hope everyone did!

It's always so lovely when forumers get to share their experience.  Only we can do the description justice in a way that's meaningful to other superfans.  When I take videos and pics, I'm doing it with love for you guys.

@ac:  I have a video of Andrew's little heart ramble earlier in the thread.

Sorry for the double post.  I know that this is an MGMT thread, but I really wanted to share my best moment of the weekend with you.(other than running into certain boys)  Scotty and I were front row center for Airborne Toxic Event.  When they started this song, it was torrential rain.  As it ended, the sun came out.  After they finished, they were just sort of stunned.  It was one of those incredible moments when audience and artist feel as thought they've just finished making love-sorry that's the only way I can describe it.  It's intimacy between thousands of people.  The band says it was the most incredible thing that's ever happened to them.

So here's my $.02 for Osheaga.

I want to say that with the exception of three people (a beer seller, taxi driver and customs agent) Montreal had the nicest people I've ever met.  I was there for 5 days and had an opportunity to meet a lot of lovely people.  That being said, Montreal why you no have your businesses open at normal hours????

We had an extended crew of Misty, her bf, daughter and daughter's bf and Larissa and her sweet bf, Sam.  My mini crew was Scotty, Katie. and Alyssa (framboise) in our room.  Let me say that I couldn't have asked for a better group.  Everyone was just so chill.  I adored our lovely little foursome.  We got along so well and we actually rarely separated.  Besides amazing music this weekend, I think my main memory will be laughing.  We laughed more than I ever have at any festival.  I think it was because there was no drama or tension in any way.

One would tend to think that Montreal would know how to throw a festival.  No one can argue that the lineup wasn't spectacular.  The performances didn't disappoint.  The biggest problem was that the festival was oversold and there weren't near enough concessions and potties.  The food, when you could get it, was mediocre with an F grade going to selection.  We actually each ate the same things every day.  I know that festivals are about the music, but let's face it, we have to eat and why not have some yummy things to offer?  On the first day, when they had double the crowd they've ever had, the food and drink lines were hours long.  At Lolla, I've never waited more than a couple of minutes for anything.

The layout of the park and the stages created awful bottlenecks.  At night, the pathways weren't lit and you couldn't see where you were going.  That can be scary when you're being pushed along by a massive crowd.  Monday night, waiting to get to the Metro was Hell.  It was hot and jam packed with people.  We waited for an hour and when we got in, officials had just opened up the gates to the trains because it was such a bad situation. At other festivals I've attended, if you didn't want to be in crowds, there were lovely places you could spread a blanket and chill while you listened to the bands.  Those places were very rare at Osheaga.  It wasn't their fault that it was hot as balls, but the place was dusty and awful.  Also, the area in front of the 2 main stages was made of gravel.  What The Actual Fuck?  What could be worse?  It was just a very unpleasant atmosphere.  I guess all of this really speaks to how wonderful my crew was because I really did have one of the best weekends ever.

The performances were great.  As I mentioned before, Airborne had what they referred to as a "Magical" experience.  It's always wonderful to be a part of a band's great experiences and we just happened to be front and center for that one.  When we were waiting for them, a Canadian rap band called Airplane Boys had an outstanding set.  The guy called Bon Voyage said, Now all the pretty ladies are gonna dance!  He jumped off stage and took my had and started "singing" to me.  Then he twirled me around.  I posted Tim Snow's pic on my fb and twitter.  I look like dog food, but it's fun to have.

Highlights:  Airborne Toxic Event
                Chappo
                Tame Impala
                Florence
                Young The Giant
                Freelance Whales
                Yeasayer
                MGMT

The best moments of the weekend were actually hugs from my two favorite people :)

I agree that the food was less than stellar and the metro situation was beyond ridiculous. However, I never had to wait in line for a beer or a bathroom.  I think the key was catching the beer guys walking around and using the bathrooms positioned in lesser crowded areas.

The lineups were bad on day one at the main stage area.  I've seen lots of francophone FB posts complaining about it...along with the stairways from hell.

I had such an amazing time at Osheaga. Meeting up with lala, framboise, katie, misty was magical. ily guys all so much, you were all so sweet and so much fun to be around. I really wish I could've spent more time with you guys but with the gigantic crowds and gazillion excellent bands, it was hard to work things out sometimes. But just so happy to have met you all anyway! ;D

The bands that we saw were all spectacular, and I must say the MGMT show was likely one of the most magical experiences I've ever had. Seeing the fireworks next to the stage while they were playing Siberian Breaks brought on one of the best feelings in the world. And being surrounded by people who I adore just completed it all. And the fact that they opened with Future Reflections was simply amazing too. My eyes welled up with tears for at least half of the songs they played, just from thinking about how amazing the whole experience was/was going to be. I couldn't have been happier. Plus Andrew and James' banter about love and to do everything from your heart, not your mind, just suited the whole experience perfectly. I must say that this show was 10000 times better than the Kool Haus show in Toronto. It was worth the trip to Toronto to meet the boys, but this show was just phenomenal.

I agree with lala on the crowds, food, toilets, etc. And the heat... oh god... the heat. I had sweat pouring down my back for basically all day Saturday, and the tight crowds just made it wayyyy to much to handle. I don't know how I didn't pass out. We saw people do just that directly in front of us twice. Heat exhaustion/dehydration were likely to blame. But of course, the weather wasn't anyone's fault. The best weather we had all weekend was DEFINITELY the rain on Sunday. It was so much fun and just much more comfortable overall. Plus the times when the sun finally did shine on Sunday were beautiful -- like during Passion Pit, when the whole crowd just broke out into a cheer when the sun beamed through the clouds.

There were many upsides and downsides to the fest, but overall, of course, I had an amazing time. The schedule was a little less than favorable, but I really wouldn't have changed anything about what I decided to see. One thing that I would have enjoyed for the fest was if I were about 3 inches taller. I COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING. Haha.

I don't even know what else to say, there are so many things I could talk about. My top bands for each day would have been MGMT Friday, Yeasayer Saturday, and... Sunday is hard... Tame Impala, Metric, or M83. Other amazing shows were Franz, Florence, Justice, Freelance Whales, Black Lips, SBTRKT would've been better if I wasn't dying, Passion Pit, and The Shins.

I LOVE OSHEAGA. :)

UGH IT SOUNDS SO AMAZING! I'm soooo happy you guys went and had an awesome time! I feel like if none of you guys went it would just be tragic LOL. I wanted to go to this so bad, but, hearing your experiences gives me great visuals and just makes me so excited haha! I don't know how I feel about the festival's downsides. You guys obviously had a TON of fun, but, would you recommend going another year if they had a kick ass lineup again?
And as someone mentioned before: Thank you guys for sharing everything  :-*

I can't answer that as well as someone who has actually been to another fest. ;D The fact that it's close to me is a big seller, and is in the same country... I would definitely go again... I mean, this is my second year in a row. I don't know about someone from farther away... lala? Care for some input?

I liked Osheaga for the line up.  I think they oversold Friday.  I missed a lot of bands I wanted to see or at least hear as it took forever to move around because of the crowd.  The food lines were totally unacceptable plus the variety in food was pretty lacking.  I'm considering going back to OSL in San Fran next year if the line up is decent.  The oppressive heat plus the crowd was a killer...guess I'm just getting old lol

I don't think age was a factor in that situation, I barely made it! My body took a huge toll over the weekend. My feet were swollen all day Monday. The only time during the fest that the crowd wasn't a factor was between opening each day and up until about 3-4pm. After that... Nope, good luck getting from point A to point B in less than 15 minutes!

I don't want to take away from the awesome experience I had with the people I was with....It was just so special and I adore my crew.  However, I honestly wouldn't go back to Osheaga if it was a free trip and the Beatles were reincarnated.  I'll be at Lolla next year.

Everything has pretty much already been said, but yeah, I'd give basically everything besides the bands and the people I was with an F. I'm so glad I made the trip but once is enough. However, I would love to go back to Montreal and explore the city. What I did see was lovely. If I'm lucky I may even find a shop/restaurant that is open during regular hours.

i agree, i had a great tie but wouldnt go back, not enough bathrooms and i hardly ate cuz the lineups were miles long. it seemed too crowded. i would have liked a little less tickets sold.

heres some pics from osheaga's website. james' hair is looking super long and hot, and so is andrews <3
I also love andrew's olympic appropriate guitar strap!

Serious PCD setting in.  I was out running errands today and every time an Osheaga band came on the radio I got sad.  All summer, I would get so hyped whenever one came on and now it's all behind us.  I need to just put Mumford on repeat.

I'm very happy everyone had a great time, but very sad that people didn't enjoy the festival itself. My body went into festival mode (either that or dehydration) and I didn't have to pee like... ever. Except the last day when I was slightly tipsy. And I never had an issue finding a bathroom. I also rarely was hungry. Water was always easy to get if you found the fountains that weren't stuck in the middle of everything, and I only ate there twice: fries once, took maybe 2 minutes in line, and a hot dog, which I got as soon as I walked up to the stand. Maybe it's 'cause I was eating at random times or something, I have no idea. I thought the bathroom situation was way worse last year, they didn't have nearly as many port-a-potties, and I had to wait like 20 minutes to get into the bathroom by the main stages... And once I got in there there was no toilet paper. I think the festival was better put together this year, except for the amount of people.

But I've never been to another music festival before, so I have nothing to compare to! ;D

Missing all of your beautiful faces too. You guys were some of the nicest people I've met. Oh, and I meant to ask you framboise, where you got those cool earrings I thought were paper clips. ;D Probably nowhere I could find.

Also, pretty upset I didn't get to meet you ac (I forget your real name again). I kept an eye out for you the whole time but I didn't know your face well enough to pick you out. :( There are so many people who have curly hair like yours, you know?!

:( There are so many people who have curly hair like yours, you know?!

aw your so sweet larissaa! my names alicia and i know, there were so many people period, i kept mistaking everyone for my lost friends... next toronto mgmt show we gotta meet up! and possibly meet the band again  ;D heheeheee
I agree! I'm sure we'll be hitting up a show together again someday, and we'll have to be sure to meet up. It was so difficult with Osheaga. :(

Midnight City came on the radio this morning on my way to work, and it hit me that its been a week since I was freezing and covered in mud watching M83 with some awesome people. I miss everyone :(

My M83 spider bite still itches.  I almost like it because it means it wasn't so long ago, lol.

M83 would be fun in the mud!  lolers, maybe you'll turn into Spiderwoman.  Scotty would be jealous.

He would have been except that he had his own spider bite.  He keeps trying to shoot webs.

But then it sucks because it sucks. But meeting the band is definitely a pro for that venue. :)

Yeah, you definitely have a lot of good memories there then! I have a love/hate feeling for it. I cried my eyes out from the terrible time I was having but it was also one of the best nights of my life too. Weird.

Right before MGMT went on, they played a Beatles song really loud.

The name of this Beatles song has escaped me so many times before. I've seriously been looking since August and cannoy find it.

DOES ANYONE KNOW????? ITS my favourite Beatles song and i lost it!!!! :( Really not a well known song at all, but sooooooooo good.
